Everyone knows what a compelling figure Van Gogh was.  He fits in perfectly with my Big Men series & other works of mine that address the overcoming of life's pain and suffering through the deeds and the work we leave behind.  In my portrait bust of Van Gogh I used a turbulent surface, (which suggests the turbulent brushwork in many of his paintings) especially in the torso, coupled with a steady, though troubled, countenance to convey his focus & dedication cutting through his difficulties.
