The Burden

This bronze sculpture started as a study in anatomy—just an exercise. First I sculpted the skeleton, then the muscles.  But when the exercise was finished I wanted it to have something meaningful to show for my efforts, so I made him into an enigmatic figure. Who is he—middle-aged, barefoot, and carrying a heavy load, arm out for balance?  What's in the sack, you may ask?
