bassic motion iv

I have made many sculptures of double-bass players.  I like the physical relationship between the bassist and the instrument.  It is very much an embrace and it is easy to see the two as one.

I sculpted this from a sketch I drew watching the virtuoso, Francois Rabbath, soloing with a primeval, wild abandon through jazz, classical, & new-age music.  A small man, he was “all over” his big instrument, fingers and bow flying.  His movements, the sound of his music, and the art movement, Futurism, conspired to inspire this sculpture.  As in many of my music-inspired pieces, the musician, the instrument, and the music become one.
